Compact Brass & Wood Chime – Japanese-Inspired Door Bell

A small, refined chime designed to bring a quiet moment of clarity into daily life. Its C-shaped wooden base (7.5 cm high, 3 cm wide) supports a 10 mm polished brass sphere, suspended above a miniature brass bowl (30 mm diameter, 20 mm height). With a slight movement, a touch, a gentle push, or shifting air, it produces a high, clear tone at approximately 2805 Hz (note E).

This tone is bright, focused, and reminiscent of the higher-pitched Tibetan singing bowls traditionally used for clarity and mental centering. Though brief, the sound rings with presence and fades gently, ideal for marking small transitions or bringing subtle attention to a moment.

Inspired by the Japanese furin tradition, this chime draws on the idea of sound as atmosphere, marking shifts, inviting awareness, and softening the edges of routine. While it’s not a wind chime in the classic sense, a nearby draft may activate it. It’s most effective when placed where frequent movement occurs.

Use & Placement

Best suited for spots with regular interaction: a refrigerator door, cabinet drawer, or window that’s often opened. It can also be placed on a desk or altar and gently lifted when a sound cue is needed, offering a ritual-like moment for transition, grounding, or pause.
